Checking your child's CDBS eligibility and balance
Your child qualifies if they’re aged 0 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year, eligible for Medicare, and receiving or part of a family receiving a payment such as Family Tax Benefit Part A.
There’s no form to fill in. Eligibility is assessed at the start of each calendar year, and you’ll be notified by post or through myGov. To check the balance, sign in to myGov and look under Medicare, then History and statements, or call 132 011.
For two-year periods starting in 2026, the cap is $1,158 per child, and it’s indexed every 1 January. Tell us when you book, and we’ll check the balance beforehand.
What your DVA card covers
Veteran Gold Card holders can access treatment for all dental conditions. Veteran White Card holders can access treatment for an accepted service-related condition, or for the dental consequences of cancer treatment.
The program covers examinations and cleaning, fillings and extractions, crowns and bridges, implants and dentures, and emergency treatment after an unforeseen injury.
Implants and certain other services need DVA’s written approval before treatment starts, and we lodge that request for you. A biennial limit of $5,980.30 applies to certain higher-cost restorative items from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027. To check your entitlements, call DVA on 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372).
How to get a hospital voucher
Adults need to be a NSW resident, be eligible for Medicare, and hold or be a dependent on a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Card. A State Seniors Card on its own doesn’t qualify.
Call the NSW Oral Health Contact Centre on 1800 679 336 to be triaged, with priority based on how urgent your problem is. You can’t request a voucher directly. Public dental staff decide whether one is appropriate for the care you need. St Marys sits within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
Urgent care vouchers are valid for one month, and general and denture vouchers for three months. You won’t pay anything for the care your voucher authorises.
If you need treatment that isn’t listed on your voucher, we’ll refer you back to the public dental clinic. They’ll either provide that treatment or issue you another voucher. We can’t charge you for necessary treatment your voucher doesn’t cover.
Terms & Conditions:
- Eligibility, coverage and benefit amounts are set by Services Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and NSW Health, not by our practice, and can change at any time.
- Caps and limits quoted above apply to the periods stated. Confirm current figures with the relevant department.
- Under the NSW voucher scheme, any necessary treatment not listed on your voucher is referred back to the public dental clinic and cannot be charged to you.
- No separate charge is made to Veteran Card holders for treatment approved under DVA arrangements.
- Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
